Congress Worker and Family Take Their Own Lives in Janjgir-Champa

Raipur: In a tragic incident in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district, a couple and their two sons reportedly took their own lives by consuming poison at their home. The incident, which occurred on Friday, came to light when neighbours found the family in a critical condition. Despite being rushed to various hospitals, all four family members passed away during treatment on Saturday, according to police reports.

The deceased have been identified as Panchram Yadav, 66, his wife Dinesh Nandini, 55, and their sons, Suraj, 27, and Neeraj, 32. The family resided in the Bodha Talab area under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station. Panchram Yadav was a former office-bearer of the district unit of the Congress party, authorities confirmed.

Janjgir-Champa’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Rajendra Jaiswal, provided details on the case, stating, “The family members consumed poison on 30th August and were immediately admitted to the district hospital. However, due to the severity of their condition, Neeraj was transferred to the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Bilaspur, while the others were treated at a private hospital.” Sadly, none of them survived.

The investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing, with the police noting that no suicide note was found at the scene. The reason behind the family’s drastic decision remains unclear, but preliminary findings suggest that financial difficulties may have played a role. According to local residents, the Yadav family was burdened with debt. Panchram, who worked as a contractor, and his sons, who had recently ventured into a business that reportedly incurred significant losses, were believed to be struggling financially.

The family’s suicide was discovered when a neighbour, noticing the unusual locking of the main door from the outside, grew concerned and alerted others. Upon breaking into the house, relatives and neighbours found the entire family in a dire state and immediately sought medical help, but it was too late.

A case of accidental death has been registered, and the police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event.
