Patna: As the Bihar Assembly’s budget session goes on, the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) convened a meeting to work out a strategy for confronting the government over significant issues. The meeting, led by Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, was held in the official bungalow of RJD legislator Alok Kumar Mehta at 12 Mangles Road. It included MLAs and MLCs from the RJD, Congress, and Left parties.
At the meeting, Tejashwi Yadav laid stress on raising urgent issues in the Assembly, such as those pertaining to education, healthcare, law and order, students, youth, farmers, and women. He added that the joint meeting was organised to strategise a unified approach for raising these issues in the legislative session.
Tejashwi Yadav called the meeting productive, pointing towards the involvement of all the allied parties. He emphasised that the discussions regarding individual departments would be held after the budget session. He also blamed the government for being unjust towards Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants and promised to put their issues on top of the agenda.
Reacting to the recent utterance by Baba Bageshwar on the establishment of a Hindu Rashtra, he reaffirmed that India’s Constitution, prepared by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, provides the freedom of movement for every citizen.
When asked about Congress’ chief ministerial candidate in the 2025 Bihar Vidhan Sabha election, Congress MLA Vijay Shankar Dubey said that ultimately it is for the party high command to decide. But, he added that traditionally, the head of the largest party within the alliance was the CM candidate.
CPI (ML) lawmaker Satyendra Yadav criticised the Bihar government, accusing it of rampant corruption. He contended that the state budget did not satisfactorily cater to the marginalised sections of the population, such as labourers, farmers, students, Dalits, and Mahadalits. Being an opposition group, he claimed that their responsibility is to reveal the shortfalls of the budget and show the neglect of ordinary citizens.
Satyendra Yadav further declared that Tejashwi Yadav would be the Grand Alliance’s Chief Ministerial candidate for the 2025 Bihar elections.
Addressing concerns over dissent within the Congress regarding Tejashwi’s leadership, he dismissed individual opinions, stating that no official statement had been issued by the Congress high command. He reaffirmed that the upcoming election would be contested under Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership.
