Srinagar: On Monday, the Congress party released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The list features nine candidates, including prominent party figures such as Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Vikram Rasool Wani. These elections will be conducted in three phases across the Union Territory, with the first phase scheduled for 18 September.
Ghulam Ahmad Mir, the party’s general secretary, has been fielded from the Dooru constituency, while former state unit chief Vikram Rasool Wani will contest from Banihal. This announcement comes shortly after the Congress finalised a seat-sharing agreement with its ally, the National Conference (NC). Under this arrangement, the National Conference will contest 51 seats, while the Congress will vie for 32.
The Congress’s candidate list includes:
- Dooru: Ghulam Ahmad Mir
- Banihal: Vikram Rasool Wani
- Tral: Surinder Singh Channi
- Devsar: Amanullah Mantoo
- Anantnag: Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed
- Inderwal: Sheikh Zafarullah
- Bhaderwah: Nadeem Sharif
- Doda: Sheikh Riaz
- Doda West: Pradeep Kumar Bhagat
The election schedule for Jammu and Kashmir is as follows: the first phase on 18 September, the second phase on 25 September, and the final phase on 1 October. The counting of votes is slated for 4 October, determining the future political landscape of the region.
