Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Takes A Bold Stand On Minority Rights In Bangladesh

NewDelhi: Wayanad MP and known Congress figure Priyanca Gandhi has sparked a discussion lately not only through her parliamentary addresses but also, with her selection of handbags. Renowned for expressing views and opinions Priyanca Gandhi has garnered notice by carrying bags bearing impactful messages that have now thrust her into the limelight and attracted disapproval, from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Prianka made her way into the Parliament on Monday carrying a handbag that had “Palestine” written on it which stirred reactions, from BJP officials for what they claimed was leaning towards favoritism of minorities in politics; however Prianka Gandhi remained steadfast and unfazed by the criticism. The day she returned to Parliament with a handbag displaying a message denouncing violence against minorities, in Bangladesh. This courageous decision has stirred up a lot of controversy, around her since the BJP is questioning her motives and beliefs.

Priyanka Gandhi stood strong, against criticism. Joined a demonstration outside Parliament on Tuesday with Congress MPs to raise awareness about the violence faced by Hindus and Christians in Bangladesh. During her interaction with the press at the protest rally she firmly expressed her stance by asserting her independence in choosing her attire and accessories without being influenced by opinions. She confidently questioned the norms that seek to control womens fashion choices in response to the controversy surrounding her handbags and boldly stated “Why should someone else have a say in what I wear or carry? This mindset reflects ideas, about gender roles.”

The new handbag of the Congress leader has sparked demands to bring the governments focus to the reported mistreatment of minority groups, in Bangladesh. At a discussion held during Zero Hour on Monday Priyanka expressed worries about the discrimination faced by Hindus and Christians in Bangladesh. Called for diplomatic intervention from the Indian government.She stressed the importance of taking a stance, against acts of violence and providing assistance to those affected.

Her position has evoked a variety of responses, from quarters. The BJP has criticized her for showing outrage and engaging in politics while the Congress has shown solidarity with Priyanaka and praised her for bringing attention to the challenges faced by marginalized communities, outside Indias borders.
