New Delhi: New concerns have emerged over alleged covert operations by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir, with claims of a large-scale infiltration by Pakistani Special Services Group (SSG) commandos. Kashmiri activist Amjad Ayub Mirza and former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Shesh Paul Vaid have reported these developments, suggesting a potential escalation in the region.
In a post on social media platform X, Mirza claimed that around 600 SSG commandos have infiltrated the Kupwara area and other locations within Jammu and Kashmir. He attributed the alleged infiltration to a strategic offensive planned by Major General Adil Rehmani, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Pakistani SSG, operating out of Muzaffarabad. According to Mirza, local jihadi sleeper cells are aiding these commandos in their operation.
Further elaborating on the situation, Mirza alleged that Lt Col Shahid Salim Janjua is leading the attacks within Indian territory, with the intention of engaging the Indian Army’s 15 Corps. He claimed that two additional battalions of SSG are stationed in Muzaffarabad, prepared to infiltrate India through Jammu and Kashmir. “SSG Major General Adil Rehmani is present in Muzaffarabad, plotting an attack against India. An SSG battalion led by Lt Col Shahid Salim Janjua has already entered India,” Mirza stated.
The situation has drawn parallels to the 1999 Kargil War, when approximately 5,000 Pakistani soldiers infiltrated Indian territory, leading to a significant conflict. The Pir Panjal range, known for its challenging terrain, remains a strategic and contested area, often exploited for infiltration due to its difficult-to-monitor landscape.
Supporting these claims, former Jammu and Kashmir DGP Shesh Paul Vaid confirmed in a video on X that Major General Adil Rehmani is allegedly orchestrating these incursions. Vaid highlighted the deliberate infiltration of around 600 SSG commandos, warning of the potential for renewed conflict. He also noted that Lt Col Shahid Salim Janjua is conducting operations within Indian territory, allegedly with support from local jihadi elements.
In response to these reports, the Indian Army has intensified its security measures. Operation Sarp Destruction 2.0 has been launched, aiming to eliminate the infiltrators and secure the region. The operation is being closely monitored by the Prime Minister’s Office, with direct oversight by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and the Army Chief. Troops have been deployed within an 80-kilometer radius to secure strategic locations and prevent further infiltration.
The situation remains tense, with the Indian Army on high alert to counter any potential threats and ensure the safety and security of the region. Further developments are being closely watched as both sides remain vigilant amidst these escalating tensions.
