Paradip: A two-day prolonged coastal defence exercise ‘Sea Vigil 2022’ began along the Paradip coast in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday.
The multi-exercise will cover the 7,516 km-long coastlines of India in which Odisha Marine Police, Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Customs Department, and Fisheries Department will take part. Apart from this, the exercise will also take place in the exclusive economic zone.
The national-level coastal defence exercise was conceptualised in 2018 to validate various measures that have been instituted towards enhancing maritime security since the ’26/11′ Mumbai terror attack in 2008.
This exercise is a build-up towards the major Theatre Level Readiness Operational Exercise (TROPEX), which is conducted by the Indian Navy every two years. Sea Vigil and TROPEX together will cover the entire scope of maritime security challenges.
Exercise Sea Vigil-2022 will provide an opportunity, at the apex level, to evaluate India’s maritime preparedness for any kind of invasion or terrorist attack done in the domain of Maritime Security and Coastal Defence, sources said.
