Beijing: China has once again pushed the boundaries of transportation technology, with its latest maglev train prototype achieving a staggering speed of 700 kilometres per hour in just two seconds, setting a new world record for acceleration.
The breakthrough was announced by the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), which unveiled the high-speed maglev test vehicle during a demonstration at a facility in Hubei province.
Designed for future ultra-high-speed rail networks, the train employs advanced magnetic levitation technology to eliminate wheel friction and achieve unparalleled performance.
According to reports, the prototype accelerated from 0 to 700 kmph in an astonishing two seconds — far surpassing traditional high-speed trains. Cutting-edge electromagnetic propulsion systems and lightweight materials, which reduce drag and enhance efficiency, enable this rapid acceleration.
Experts assert that this development advances China’s goal of constructing vacuum-tube or low-pressure maglev lines that can reach speeds exceeding 1,000 kmph. Such systems could dramatically shorten travel times across the vast country, potentially linking Beijing and Shanghai in under 30 minutes.
