Raipur: Following the appointment of Vishnu Deo Sai as the new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, discussions have intensified about the possibility of introducing two deputy chief ministers to balance caste equations in the state.
One of the frontrunners for the position is Arun Sao, an Other Backward Class (OBC) leader and the current president of the Chhattisgarh BJP. Notably, Sao replaced Sai as BJP chief in 2022, just a year prior to the assembly elections. In the 2023 elections, he won convincingly against Congress leader Thaneswar Sahu from the Lormi seat. Additionally, Sao holds experience serving in the Lok Sabha and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Vijay Sharma, a Brahmin leader, is also being considered for the deputy chief minister position. This move by the BJP strategically balances political representation across various castes in the state.
After days of speculation, the BJP finally announced Vishnu Deo Sai, a prominent tribal leader, as the new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh on Sunday. The party claims that appointing two deputy chief ministers, one from the OBC community and another from the Brahmin community, caters to the caste dynamics of the state and helps them prepare for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
