Chennai: In a significant development in the murder case of Tamil Nadu Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President Armstrong, Chennai Police have killed an accused named Thiruvengadam in an encounter.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided an alleged hideout of the accused in the Madhavaram area during the early hours of the day. According to the Chennai Police, Thiruvengadam attempted to attack the police team during the raid. In response, the police retaliated, resulting in the injury of the accused. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Armstrong, the state president of the BSP, was brutally murdered in Chennai on the evening of July 5, 2024. The attack took place openly on the streets, where assailants, riding on three motorcycles, stabbed Armstrong multiple times before fleeing the scene.
