Hamilton: Jhulan Goswami scripted history on Saturday during India’s 155-run win against the West Indies in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 on Saturday.
By dismissing Anisa Mohammed, Jhulan became the leading wicket-taker in the history of women’s Wold Cup with 40 scalps.
Jhulan already holds the world record for the most number of wickets (245) in women’s One-Day Internationals.
Nicknamed Chakda Express – subject of an under-production biopic featuring Anushka Sharma in title role — the 39-year-old pacer from West Bengal had equalled former Australian bowler Lyn Fullston’s tally of 39 World Cup wickets in India’s previous game against New Zealand.

Needing one more wicket to own the record solely, Jhulan was made to wait on Saturday. She took the new ball after India piled up 317 for 8 in 50 overs and got some hammering, conceding 35 runs in just three overs and going wicketless.
Then the big moment came in her second spell when Anisa got a leading edge and was well caught by substitute fielder Taniya Bhatia at short mid-wicket.
It was Jhulan’s only wicket of the match as the West Indies were bowled out for 162 in the 41st over.
