Chacha Chaudhary Chosen As Mascot Of Govt Project; What’s The Logic?

New Delhi: Popular comic book character ‘Chacha Chaudhary’ was on Friday named as mascot for the Union government’s ‘Namami Gange Programme’.

The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), after a meeting of its executive council, announced a tie-up with Diamond Toons, which has been entrusted with the job of developing and distributing comics, e-comics and animated videos featuring Chacha Chaudhary.

The comics will initially be launched in Hindi, English and Bengali.

The total estimated budget for the project is Rs 2.26 crore.

According to the Ministry of Jal Shakti, NMCG is keen on bringing behavioural changes among children towards the Ganga and other rivers, hence the surprising choice of mascot.

“NMCG has always been into community engagement with special focus on youth and children. This association will be one more step towards it,” stated Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, director-general of NMCG, adding that youths are the “impellers of change”.

Namami Gange is a flagship project of the Central government to bring down pollution as well as conservation and rejuvenation of the national river Ganga.
