New Delhi: The Central government has marked 30 crore population for administering COVID-19 vaccine after it gets necessary approval.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, Union Health secretary Rajesh Bhusan said the national expert group on vaccine administration has recommended 30 crore Indians to be administered the vaccine first. It included one crore healthcare workers, two crore frontline workers and 27 crore general population under priority groups.
Elaborating on the target groups, Bhusan said the healthcare workers include those working in the healthcare sector, both government and private. The frontline workers include personnel from state and Central police departments, armed forces, home guard and civil defence organisations including disaster management volunteers and municipal workers.
People above 50 years and those below 50 years with associated comorbidities are included under 27 crore general public, said the secretary.
