Casual Dinner Turns Into Expensive Medical Nightmare For Mumbai Woman

Mumbai: A dinner with her family at Kurla in Mumbai became a nightmare for a woman when a chicken bone became caught in her throat and caused a month of suffering and an expensive medical operation.

On February 3, Sheikh Ruby dined with her family at a restaurant, including chicken biryani. Just as she began to bite into it, a bone lodged in her throat, causing excruciating pain. She moved on with her day unaware of the serious aftermath, but a short while later she was in agony.

Her relatives brought her to the hospital following the accident, where the doctors advised a CT scan to ascertain the state of affairs. Ruby disagreed to any inspection, though, and returned home thinking the discomfort would pass on its own.

Two days later, a high temperature and unexpected rise in blood pressure led to her hospitalisation. Doctors advised that surgery was the only option to prevent potentially fatal complications; medical testing, including X-rays and CT scans, confirmed the presence of the bone.

Originally scheduled to last two hours, the operation lasted nearly eight hours. Doctors claimed coughing had caused the bone to rise, therefore complicating the operation. They classified the situation as odd and challenging.

Ruby’s husband revealed that the whole medical bill was ₹8 lakh, paid for by well-wishers, friends, and relatives. After surgery, she had to rely on a special feeding tube for twenty-one days, as she couldn’t eat solid food.. Ruby has recovered totally one month later.
