Benoni: In a display of sheer dominance, the India Under-19 cricket team completed a resounding 3-0 whitewash over South Africa U19, crushing the hosts by a colossal 233 runs in the final Youth ODI at Willowmoore Park on Wednesday.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, skipper Vaibhav Suryavanshi led from the front in his debut series as captain, smashing a blistering 127. He forged a commanding partnership with Aaron George, who contributed a stylish 118, propelling India to a mammoth 393 for 7 in 50 overs. Vedant Trivedi’s (34) and Mohammad Naan’s (28) contributions further strengthened the total, presenting South Africa with a formidable challenge.
The Proteas’ chase folded up for a paltry 160 in just 35 overs as India’s bowlers ran riot. Pace sensation Kishan Singh starred with figures of 3 for 15 in four overs, while all-rounder Mohammad Naan claimed two wickets. Henil Patel, Kanishk Chauhan, Uddhav Mohan, RS Ambrish, and captain Suryavanshi himself chipped in with a wicket each, ensuring regular breakthroughs.
South Africa’s top scorers, Paul James (41) and Daniel Bosman (40), offered fleeting resistance but could not stem the collapse. This one-sided victory underscored India’s superior batting firepower and bowling precision throughout the series, signalling bright prospects for the young colts on the international stage.
