New Delhi: Cricket fans across the subcontinent are bracing for another high-voltage encounter as arch-rivals India and Pakistan prepare to face off in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2025 on September 21 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
This will be their second meeting in the tournament, following India’s dominant win on September 14.
Both teams have successfully qualified for the Super 4 round. India cruised through the group stage with two comprehensive victories and a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR), while Pakistan secured their spot after a must-win game against the UAE on September 17.
What If Pakistan Loses Again to India?
The upcoming clash is crucial for Pakistan’s chances of reaching the final. However, a loss to India on September 21 does not automatically eliminate Pakistan from the tournament. The Super 4 format allows each team to play three matches — one against each of the other qualified teams. Therefore, Pakistan still has opportunities to earn points and improve their NRR in the remaining fixtures.
Pakistan’s qualification for the final will depend on:
Pakistan must win at least one of the remaining Super 4 matches against Group B qualifiers, which are expected to be Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, or Afghanistan.
Maintaining a competitive net run rate, especially if teams are tied on points.
India, on the other hand, is in a strong position. With four points already secured in the group stage and a favourable NRR, the Men in Blue are considered favourites to reach the final — especially if they continue their winning streak in the Super Four.
The scenario in Group B adds to the drama.
The qualification race from Group B remains intense. Bangladesh, despite having four points, is under pressure due to a negative NRR. If Afghanistan defeats Sri Lanka in their upcoming match, they will qualify, leaving NRR to decide the fate of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. If Afghanistan loses, both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will advance.
This uncertainty adds another layer of complexity to the Super 4 stage, where every run and wicket could influence the final lineup.
India’s Final Group Match vs Oman
India still has one group match left against Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi. However, since India has already secured qualification, the outcome of this match will not affect their Super 4 standing.
As the countdown begins for the September 21 showdown, fans are eagerly anticipating whether Pakistan can bounce back or if India will continue their dominance. Either way, the Asia Cup 2025 promises thrilling cricket and intense rivalries.
