Mumbai: The beloved onscreen pairing of Ajay Devgn and Tabu has consistently delivered massive hits for the Hindi film industry. However, their highly anticipated romantic musical Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha remains a notable exception. Directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Neeraj Pandey, the movie has officially completed two years since its theatrical release on August 2, 2024. As the film marks this milestone, its box office journey serves as a classic example of unpredictable audience reception.

Ajay Devgn and Tabu are widely regarded as one of the most successful combinations in modern cinema. Together, they have entertained millions through commercial blockbusters like Vijaypath, Drishyam, Golmaal Again, Bholaa and De De Pyaar De. Fans naturally had immense expectations when the veteran actors collaborated once more. The project also boasted a strong supporting cast featuring Jimmy Shergill, Saiee Manjrekar and Shantanu Maheshwari.

Despite the stellar lineup, the movie stumbled right out of the gate. Produced on a lavish budget of around Rs 100 crore, the romantic drama failed to attract footfalls on opening day. It managed a surprisingly low start of just Rs 1.85 crore. The ticket sales showed no significant growth over the opening weekend or subsequent days. The lifetime collection eventually crashed at roughly Rs 14.2 crore. This dismal performance resulted in the movie becoming the biggest commercial failure of Ajay Devgn’s extensive career.

The lack of audience interest led to an abrupt end for its theatrical run. Trade reports highlighted that exhibitors pulled the film from most cinema halls within just fifteen to twenty days. The core narrative explored the tragic love story of Krishna and Vasudha. The plot hinges on a fateful incident that sends Krishna to prison for 23 years on murder charges. The emotional crux of the film focuses on his release and his final poignant meeting with Vasudha. Unfortunately, the intense emotional drama failed to engage the theater crowds.

Today, the movie has found a quiet second life in the digital space. Audiences who skipped the theater release are now watching it on Amazon Prime Video. The project currently holds an IMDb rating of 6.2 out of ten. Two years later, industry experts remember Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha as an ambitious project that could not recover its massive budget, proving that immense star power alone cannot guarantee a blockbuster.
