New Delhi: With tension flaring up along the border with China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened an all-party meeting to discuss the situation on June 19.
A day after the armies of the two countries were engaged in a violent face-off in the Galwan Valley of Ladakh, China claimed that the sovereignty of the valley area belonged to it.
On the other hand, the External Affairs Ministry said the confrontation in Ladakh was the result of an attempt by China to unilaterally change the status quo in the region.
The ministry said both sides suffered casualties that could have been avoided had China followed the agreement arrived earlier at the higher level.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian refused to comment on reports of 43 casualties on their side during the Monday incident in the Galwan Valley.
