Mumbai: The highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, featuring India and Australia, is set to kick off on 22 November 2024. The five-match Test series will conclude on 7 January 2025, with both teams vying for the prestigious title. As the series approaches, Australian players, including captain Pat Cummins and star spinner Nathan Lyon, have been vocal in their determination to reclaim the trophy.
Pat Cummins, who has never won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, expressed his eagerness to secure the win this time. “This is one trophy I haven’t won before. It’s a trophy that not many players in the team have won,” said the Australian skipper, highlighting the team’s focus and excitement for the upcoming series.
Nathan Lyon, Australia’s leading spinner, echoed similar sentiments, expressing his frustration at having come up short in recent years. “The work has been unfinished for 10 years,” Lyon remarked, referencing Australia’s last victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy during the 2014-15 series. Since then, India has dominated, winning the last four editions of the contest.
In preparation for the crucial series, Cummins has opted for an extended break, taking approximately eight weeks off to recharge. The Australian captain revealed that he has been continuously involved in cricket for the past 18 months and felt the need to step back to be fully refreshed for the Border-Gavaskar clash. As a result, Cummins will be absent from some of Australia’s matches leading up to the series.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will follow the following schedule:
1st Test: 22-26 November in Perth
2nd Test: 6-10 December in Adelaide
3rd Test: 14-18 December in Brisbane
4th Test: 26-30 December in Melbourne
5th Test: 3-7 January in Sydney
With the Australian team eager to end India’s recent dominance in the contest, the series promises to be a thrilling chapter in this longstanding cricketing rivalry.
