BJP’s New Faces in Chhattisgarh Raise Questions about Rajasthan’s CM Post

New Delhi: Following the BJP’s recent victory in three states, the party has announced Vishnu Deo Sai as the new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. This decision has sparked speculation about the future leadership of Rajasthan, specifically the prospects of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

The appointment of a new face in Chhattisgarh suggests that the BJP might follow a similar strategy in Rajasthan, introducing a new Chief Minister ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. This strengthens the notion that the party prioritises organisation and leadership changes across various states. Raman Singh, the former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, emphasised this by stating that everyone within the organisation has designated roles and responsibilities. This indirectly indicates the possibility of him taking on a different role, like becoming the Speaker.

The situation in Rajasthan mirrors that of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, prompting concerns for Vasundhara Raje. While she might not be chosen as the Chief Minister, she could be offered the role of the Assembly Speaker. This position still holds significant political weight and could be a viable alternative. The BJP high command might also consider appointing a deputy chief minister.

Throughout the day, Raje’s residence witnessed a flurry of activity, with numerous MLAs visiting her. This suggests that they might not readily accept a potential change in leadership, but ultimately, the decision rests with the high command and the organisation.

Raje’s recent tweets have further fueled speculation. On Sunday, she posted a tweet reminiscing about her tenure as Chief Minister, highlighting her efforts to protect human rights and promote progress for all citizens. Another tweet emphasised the BJP government’s role in combating corruption and implementing various initiatives like the Bhamashah Yojana, online pension, e-mitra, Rajasthan Sampark, and ration from POS.

These tweets are widely interpreted as a reflection of Raje’s perspective on her governance and potentially a veiled response to the upcoming legislative party meeting. It remains to be seen whether she will personally announce a new name, like Raman Singh, or if the announcement will come from another party member.
