New Delhi: Guidelines for the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana—which promises ₹2,500 to women—are being prepared by the Delhi government. Sources indicate that this plan will only cover one woman in a family. Given her age, the eldest lady will be the only one benefiting if four women have a BPL (Below Poverty Line) card. On March 8, International Women’s Day, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved this initiative as a pre-poll pledge given by the BJP during the Delhi elections.

According to the recommended policies, other women on the BPL card will not be eligible for benefits. The scheme will not qualify a woman if she has more than three children or if her three children lack immunisations.

The scheme qualifying requirements follow:

The woman ought to own a BPL card.
She ought to be between twenty-one and sixty years old.
The money will be credited straight to the woman’s bank account.
Scheme monitoring will be placed at the district level through the Chief Minister’s office.

Over this initiative, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also attacked the BJP. Since Rekha Gupta took office on February 20, AAP has been acting aggressively over its execution, claiming that the party has betrayed the Delhi women.

Atishi, the opposition party leader and former chief minister, claimed that by March 8, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised to credit ₹2,500 in the accounts of women. She claims that women all across Delhi are waiting impatiently for messages on this deposit.

According to AAP, Delhi women feel duped. They are frustrated with the smaller offer of ₹2,500 since they recall an earlier assurance of ₹15 lakh. AAP attributed misleading assurances for voter cheating by the BJP.

Coming back to power after 27 years with victories in 48 seats, the BJP secured an amazing triumph in the February assembly polls; AAP won 22 seats and Congress got none.
