New Delhi: BJP addressed recent military operations in erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir and its impact on regional dynamics at the first official press conference following the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. BJP national spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra, talking to journalists, said he congratulated the armed forces and the government on the success of Operation Sindoor. He termed it a decisive embodiment of India’s military capability and steely determination.

Patra, who has been assigned to speak on behalf of the party, said with conviction, “I am not here as a spokesperson for a party but as an Indian.” Describing ‘Operation Sindoor’ not just as another military strike, he reiterated it was a message to the enemies delivered with clarity and precision. He said that the operation against terrorist hideouts across the border displayed India’s strategic acumen and resolve.

Patra praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the Prime Minister had given the required freedom to the military to carry out the mission in time. He emphasised the surprise element of the operation, stating that Pakistan had attempted to outsmart us. He said the campaign was an example of India’s ability to be “proactive instead of reactive” to provocations.

BJP spokesperson Choudhury said that ‘Operation Sindoor’ resonated across the world and that India will not take any more threats to its sovereignty. Patra indicated that the government’s retaliatory policy was ‘If a bullet comes from across the border, we will answer it with a bomb – that’s (the) new reality.’ He made it clear that India would punish terrorist groups and the nation that supports them.

Saluting the armed forces’ valour and strategic acumen, Patra paid tribute to them. We pay our respect to the bravery of our armed forces who executed the operation,” he said, adding that while ensuring the least possible collateral damage, our armed forces targeted the terrorist bastions, signifying “India’s military power along with its ethical strength.” He claimed that the operation was so precise that it has made India both a responsible power and a fearsome one.

The sentences also speak to a larger story about the acclaimed for national pride and assertiveness, as a ceasefire brings back some uneasy calm. With ‘Operation Sindoor’ now etched in the annals of Indian security and the BJP portraying it as a radical shift in India’s defence strategy from a previous era of restrained responses to a more radical, unrestrained approach, the choice is evident.
