Patna: In a move signalling changing tides in Bihar’s political landscape, the government has commenced the process to vacate the longstanding residence of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi at 10 Circular Road under the cover of night.
Trucks and vehicles were spotted late Thursday evening ferrying household items from the sprawling bungalow, which has served as the nerve centre for the Lalu Prasad Yadav family for nearly two decades, since 2006.
The evacuation follows a directive from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, issued roughly a month after the new government’s formation. The Building Construction Department had given Rabri Devi a one-month ultimatum to shift, allotting her a new abode at Central Pool Accommodation No. 39 on Harding Road in Patna.
Sources indicate the relocation could wrap up imminently, potentially reshaping the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)’s operational hub.
Amidst this, Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav are away from the state capital, with no formal response from the party yet. The family had vehemently opposed the order, highlighting simmering internal rifts. Tej Pratap Yadav, Lalu’s elder son, took to social media to vent frustration: “The younger brother took oath as CM and ordered the elder brother’s family to vacate the bungalow. Lalu Ji and kin will no longer reside at 10 Circular Road.”
This development underscores broader political undercurrents in Bihar, where alliances and residences often mirror power dynamics.
As the Lalu clan adapts to its new address, observers speculate on how it might influence RJD’s politicosphere.
