Kolkata: Several single-screen theatres in West Bengal will reopen next week with Sushant Singh Rajput films.
According to a PTI report, officials of film distributing companies said that at least 14 single screens in and around Kolkata will be screening movies of the late Bollywood star, namely ‘Kedarnath’, ‘Sonchiriya’, ‘M S Dhoni : The Untold Story’ and ‘Chhichhore’.
“We wanted to show films of Sushant with good content. Since there are no big-time releases during this festive season, we have decided to screen films which had a decent box-office run in recent times. We also know how Sushant has figured in discussions of everyone. These two factors make us believe that Kedarnath will be a perfect release after a seven-month closure of theatres,” Satadeep Saha, Senior Executive Director of SSR Cinemas Pvt Ltd, was quoted as saying.
New Empire, a traditional and popular single screen, is planning to reopen the hall with SSR’s last movie ‘Dil Bechhara’ or ‘Kedarnath’.
After a complete shutdown for six-and-a-half months because of the pandemic, the Centre has allowed movie theatres to reopen from October 15 with 50 per cent capacity and one-seat distance between spectators.
A spokesman of Eastern India Motion Pictures Association (EIMPA) said that Sushant’s films are the safest bet when audiences may be apprehensive of visiting a theatre during the ongoing pandemic.
