New Delhi: Tensions between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have escalated following the Asia Cup 2025 final, where Indian players refused to accept the trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi. Now, the BCCI is gearing up to file a formal complaint against Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, for allegedly taking the trophy and medals with him unlawfully.

Reports indicate that following India’s dominant five-wicket victory over Pakistan on Sunday, the team remained on the field and declined Naqvi’s award presentation. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed strong disapproval, stating, “Our team decided not to receive the trophy from ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. That doesn’t mean he can just walk away with it.” Saikia confirmed that BCCI Vice-President Ashish Shelar and another representative will raise the issue at today’s Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting.

Emphasising the breach of sporting spirit, Saikia added, “We will strongly protest against the Chairman’s illegal possession of the trophy. He has no right to keep it. I hope that common sense prevails, and he returns the trophy and medals to us soon.” The BCCI plans to intensify its stance at the upcoming ICC conference in Dubai in early November, potentially putting Naqvi under immense pressure.

This incident has sparked widespread debate, highlighting the strained Indo-Pak cricket relations. Fans recall how Team India celebrated their triumph sans the trophy, turning a moment of joy into one of defiance. Given the BCCI’s unwavering stance, everyone is eagerly awaiting Naqvi’s decision to yield and return the trophy to its rightful winners.
