Battle for New Delhi: Three Political Dynasties Clash In Key Assembly Seat

NewDelhi: The political climate, in Delhi has heated up notably as parties reveal their candidates for the assembly elections; the renowned New Delhi constituency has become the center of attention in a groundbreaking three way race.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is running for re election in the New Delhi constituency for the time, against Sandeep Dikshit from the Congress party who’s the son of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. The BJP has not officially announced their candidate yet. It seems they are thinking about nominating Pravesh Verma who’s the son of another former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma and a former MP, from West Delhi.

The New Delhi area has been known as a seat, in the landscape for quite some time now. With the exception of one instance in 1993 until now; whoever emerges victorious here typically ascends to the role of Chief Minister thereafter without fail over the years. The seat was previously occupied by Sheila Dikshit for three terms spanning from 1998, to 2008 before being succeeded by Kejriwals wins in 2013 and subsequently in 2015 and 2020.

Kejriwal recently stated that the BJP is noticeably missing from the landscape, in Delhi; they lack a ministerial candidate and a cohesive team or vision for the citys development. Their sole focus seems to be on oust Kejriwal, from power.”

The BJP hasn’t had success, in this area except for one win in 1993, by Kirtinandish Azad when the place was called Gol Market constituency seat was known as Gol Market then; after that victory though they’ve switched candidates each time without being able to win it back.

Sandeep Dikshits bid adds an element, to the competition by combining his two term MP background with his connection to Sheila Dikshits heritage. A blend of experience and legacy in one candidates profile. Likewise…if Pravesh Verma secures the BJP nomination…he would carry forward his fathers legacy, into the race well.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already unveiled its candidates for the 70 assembly seats; meanwhile the Congress has revealed their nominees for 21 seats so far The delay, from the BJP in announcing their candidate, for New Delhi has raised questions regarding their electoral tactics.

This election is crucial as it might solidify Kejriwals status, as the Chief Minister of Delhi for the duration or bring about a change in the political scenario of the capital city. The inclusion of contenders from political backgrounds adds an intriguing element to what is anticipated to be one of the most closely monitored electoral battles, in Delhis history.
