New Delhi: Senior IPS officer B. Srinivasan has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG), as per an official government order issued recently. A 1992 batch officer from the Bihar cadre, Srinivasan has an extensive background in law enforcement, having served in various key positions throughout his career.
Srinivasan takes over from Nalin Prabhat, who has been appointed as the Special Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The government has confirmed that Srinivasan’s term as NSG Director General will continue until 31 August 2027.
B. Srinivasan brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as Special Director General in the Jammu and Kashmir Police. During his tenure there, he played a pivotal role in managing the security landscape of the state. He also served as the Director of the Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir, where he was instrumental in implementing several new initiatives aimed at police training and reforms.
The position of NSG Director General became vacant after Nalin Prabhat, a 1992 batch IPS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, was appointed as the Special Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police. Prabhat will assume his new role on 30 September, succeeding the current Director General of Police, R.R. Swain.
The National Security Guard (NSG), established on 22 September 1986, is a specialised counter-terrorism force in India. Its primary mission is to combat terrorism and prevent serious crimes. Known for their elite training and rapid response capabilities, NSG commandos, often referred to as “Black Cat Commandos,” play a crucial role in the country’s security apparatus, providing protection to the President, Prime Minister, and other high-profile dignitaries.
With Srinivasan at the helm, the NSG is expected to continue its vital role in safeguarding national security and responding to terror threats across the country.
