Lucknow: As the sacred festival of Navratri approaches, devotees across India prepare to observe fasts in honour of Maa Durga.
However, renowned spiritual guru Premanand Maharaj has highlighted critical mistakes that can inadvertently break the fast, making the spiritual effort ineffective. In a viral video, he shares essential guidelines to ensure the sanctity of the fast.
According to Maharaj, one cardinal rule is to avoid consuming food or even water at someone else’s home during the fasting period. “This simple act can nullify your vrat,” he cautions, advising devotees to refrain from visiting others’ homes if possible.
Maintaining purity in diet is equally vital. Maharaj strictly prohibits the consumption of onion, garlic, meat, or alcohol, urging followers to embrace a sattvic lifestyle throughout the nine days.
The spiritual leader also emphasises self-discipline, advocating strict adherence to brahmacharya and devotion through chanting. He warns against indulging in gossip or slander, as such actions can disrupt the vrat’s sanctity and diminish its spiritual rewards. “Navratri is not just about fasting; it’s a time for sadhana and self-restraint,” Maharaj explains, underscoring that negligence can lead to incomplete blessings.
By following these guidelines, devotees can ensure their vrat remains unbroken, paving the way for Maa Durga’s divine grace.
As Navratri 2025 nears, Maharaj’s advice serves as a timely reminder to approach the festival with mindfulness and devotion.
