New Delhi: Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan drew BJP’s ire and ridicule after joining Rahul Gandhi during Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra on Wednesday.
Rajan, who served as RBI from 2013 to 2016, was seen having a discussion with Rahul during the footmarch which resumed from Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur.
The BJP, which has not been on the same page as Rajan on several issues related to the Indian economy, didn’t miss a chance to take a dig at the 59-year-old economist, calling him an ‘opportunist’.
“Raghuram Rajan, former RBI Governor, a Congress appointee, joining Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra is not a surprise. He fancies himself as the next Manmohan Singh. Just that his commentary on India’s economy should be discarded with disdain. It is coloured and opportunistic,” said BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya.
