Amazon is reportedly planning to make an entry in the crowded food delivery business in India.
The e-commerce giant has teamed up with local partner Catamaran (Narayana Murthy’s company) and is working on the project. It wants to take the services by the festive season in September, according to Reuters.
The online food delivery business grew by 176 per cent in 2018, according to research firm RedSeer Consulting.
Uber, which launched its food delivery business UberEats in 2017, is unable to keep up with market leaders Swiggy and Zomato.
A report in the Business Standard stated that Amazon was in talks to buy UberEats‘ business in India.
While it has stopped its food delivery business in the US, Amazon is hoping that it can carve a niche of its own in India. Taxi aggregator Ola had bought Foodpanda in 2017 but it digressed to its own brand of kitchens.
