The 1994-alumni batch of National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, has taken up a noble initiative to support the existing undergraduate batch. The students, who were earlier not getting any support for their participation in seminar and innovative project presentation in India and abroad, will henceforth get expense support to the tune of Rs 1 lakh for traveling abroad and Rs 25,000 for within India.
This has been made possible due to the 1994-alumni batch submitting a letter of intent in this respect recently with the NIT authority and establishing a corpus fund to support the research work of undergraduate students of the institute. The noble initiative of the batch has received wide appreciation from different quarters, reports Indiaeducationdiary.com.
In a function at NIT Rourkela, a letter of intent was handed over to P K Sahu, acting director, in presence of SK Patel, Dean, Academics of NIT Rourkela.
As per the letter of intent, at least two undergraduate students of the institute would avail this benefit every year, for their visit within India and abroad.
“While there has been a provision of funds for meeting the travel expenses of postgraduate students of the institute for submission of papers in national and international seminars, there is no such provision for undergraduate students and the undergraduate students of late are increasingly showing their interest in research work and paper presentation in national and international seminar,” said Dean Academics, NIT Rourkela, SK Patel.
