Mumbai: Renowned Bollywood filmmaker and director Karan Johar has addressed recent allegations of nepotism following claims that he sent an unsolicited script for the film Jigra to actress Alia Bhatt. The controversy arose after director Vasan Bala revealed that Johar had shared a rough draft of the film with Bhatt without prior consultation, prompting widespread trolling on social media.
In response to the mounting criticism, Karan Johar took to Instagram with a heartfelt post aimed at silencing his detractors. The post featured a photo of Johar with his finger pressed to his lips, accompanied by the caption: “We have to be strong to decide that life is stable enough that we can shut the mouth of some negative people.”
Johar elaborated on his experience with social media, stating, “Twitter became X and some time ago became my X. I broke away from the humid noise and calmed down the useless anger. But social media is like a loch ness monster, it reaches you even when you can’t see it. So it flooded Vasan Bala’s interview to which he responded with complete innocence and a lot of love.”
Addressing the specific incident, Johar wrote, “The horrible wrong explanation of his comment about sending my Alia a grammar-checked script initially made me laugh at the comedy of all this but now it is really bothering me. Vasan is one of my most talented and amazing colleagues and if you watch his interview and hear his tone you will understand it completely!”
He concluded his post by urging fans and critics alike to seek the full context before jumping to conclusions: “But no, there is no uproar about anything everywhere. I tell everyone with folded hands that please listen and read the entire interview before making click bait assumptions.”
Vasan Bala responded to Johar’s Instagram post with a supportive comment, stating, “Love you Karan,” demonstrating solidarity and quelling further speculation about the incident.
The exchange highlights the ongoing debate surrounding nepotism in Bollywood, a topic that has garnered significant attention in recent years. Johar’s response aims to clarify his intentions and defend his professional relationships, while Bala’s affirmation underscores their mutual respect.
As the industry continues to grapple with issues of fairness and opportunity, the Karan Johar-Alia Bhatt-Jigra controversy serves as a prominent example of the challenges faced by both established and emerging talent in navigating public perception and professional integrity.
