Ajit Pawar & Sanjay Gaikwad Spark Outrage With Controversial Statements

Mumbai: Even after having the grand alliance government in Maharashtra there is a heightening inter- party conflict and conflictual statements of leaders. This week’s comments from Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and Sanjay Gaikwad, a member of the Shiv Sena have triggered a political storm.

In the recent past, Sanjay Gaikwad, a legislator of Shiv Sena party from Buldhana constituencies’ made the following statement; Voters, you are selling your votes for mere amounts. Sitting during a local event Gaikwad used abusive language targeting the people present there stating that they sell their vote for as less as 2000 rupees. In a video that has since gone viral, he scolded all the public by stating, “You all sell your votes for just liquor and mutton.” You did not vote for me; yet, I have spent millions in development works. All you people care for is alcohol, meat.”

The reason why Gaikwad is frustrated is the recent elections that he felt was a very close call. While in the previous general elections, he obtained a comfortable victory having a margin of 26,000 votes, he has been pushed to the horns in this election, Polling a miserable 841 votes in total. It is clear that this decline has boosted his anger towards the electorate.

Likewise, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar while speaking at a programme at Baramati had the audacity to demoralise the voters. He said, “You people voted for me but I am not your servant.” This statement similar to what Gaikwad has stated has caused political disturbance.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Sanjay Gaikwad has been in the middle of the political controversy over some obscene statements. Earlier, he had incited widespread indignation by announcing a bounty of 11 lakh rupees to anyone who could chop off the tongue of Congress lawmaker Rahul Gandhi.

People have not taken these comments lightly, and critics have noted the growing estrangement of leaders from voters’ and their displeasure.
