Dehradun: As Rishabh Pant prepares with his India teammates in South Africa for the upcoming Test series, there was good news for the flamboyant wicketkeeper-batsman from back home.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami took to Twitter to announce that Pant has been appointed brand ambassador of the state, adding that he will help encourage youngsters to take up sports.
“One of the best cricket players of India, the idol of youth and son of Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has been appointed as ‘State Brand Ambassador’ by our government with the aim of encouraging the youth of the state towards sports and public health,” Dhami tweeted in Hindi, along with the video.
The 24-year-old Pant played a string of match-turning knocks against Australia and England over the last 12 months and improved his wicketkeeping as well.
Pant, who has played 25 Tests, 18 ODIs and 41 T20 Internationals for India so far, was rested for the home series against New Zealand but will be back for the three-Test series against South Africa, which gets underway in Johannesburg on December 26.
“Thank you @pushkardhami sir for giving me the opportunity to be the Brand Ambassador of promoting Sports and General Health among the people of Uttarakhand. I’ll do my best to spread this message and feeling happy that you are taking these steps towards a fitter India,” tweeted Pant.
“Coming from a small town of Roorkee, I am confident that the people here have the ability to make the country proud in various fields of life,” he added.
