New Delhi: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has recommended Kidambi Srikanth for the Khel Ratna award after he apologised for pulling out of a tournament midway.
The BAI also slapped a showcause notice on H.S. Prannoy for slamming the national federation for not nominating him for the Arjuna award.
Srikanth and Prannoy both skipped the Asian Team Championship semifinal at Manila in February, and flew to Barcelona to play in a BWF individual event. India lost the semifinal in Manila to finish third in the Asian meet.
The BAI had refrained from putting forward Srikanth and Prannoy’s names for Khel Ratna and Arjuna awards, respectively, on disciplinary grounds.
But once Srikanth tendered an apology, the world No. 14’s name has been forwarded for the prestigious honour.
World No. 28 Prannoy, on the other hand, has been asked to explain his outburst against BAI within 15 days.
Among others nominated for the Khel Ratna accolade is top Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma.
