New Delhi: Come January 1, 2026, Delhi’s commuters will zip through the capital at pocket-friendly rates, thanks to Bharat Taxi, a new ride-hailing service launched by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Unveiled by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, this Made-in-India platform promises to disrupt the cab aggregator market with fares as low as Rs 10 per kilometre, undercutting giants like Ola and Uber.
Bharat Taxi, accessible via a dedicated app, aims to empower both riders and drivers. Commuters can book affordable taxis, autos, and e-rickshaws, with transparent pricing and zero surge charges. For drivers, the platform offers a game-changing deal: a commission rate of just 10-12%, compared to the 20-30% charged by competitors, ensuring higher earnings. The service will initially roll out in Delhi, with plans to expand to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Jaipur by mid-2026.
Built on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), Bharat Taxi integrates local transport providers, fostering inclusivity and competition.
Gadkari hailed it as a step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, emphasising its potential to create jobs and improve urban mobility.
With safety features like real-time tracking and driver verification, the platform aims to win commuter trust.
As Delhi gears up for this transport revolution, Bharat Taxi could redefine how India travels, blending affordability with driver welfare in a win-win model.
