New Delhi: Complying with a longstanding demand, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has formally announced the regularisation of 12,000 temporary workers. The MCD’s budget presentation clearly outlined this decision, allocating Rs 800 crore specifically for this purpose. Emphasising the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) dedication to workers’s rights, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced this development on social media.

Employees in several departments—including sanitation workers, gardeners, beldars, engineers, and other contractual staff—will gain from the regularity. These daily wage workers will now get pay according to the Pay Commission in addition to perks such bonuses, gratuity, provent fund, and medical allowances.

Apart with staff regularity, the MCD budget has set Rs 2 crore for the enhancement of MCD institutions. Targeting to improve the learning environment for kids, this cash will be utilised for the repair and upkeep of school infrastructure.

Years of pledges by the AAP, which had already vowed to making contractual staff permanent, had preceded the choice to regularise these personnel. The action is considered as a significant first in meeting the electoral pledges of the party and raising MCD staff welfare.
