Technology Helps Livestock Farmer In Odisha To Earn More

Bhubaneswar: Ajay Barada of Burupada village under Hinjilicut block in Ganjam district started his livestock farming business with five cows seven years ago.

With time his livestock increased and, now he owns 11 cows.

“I got 30 litres of milk everyday and used to sell 22 to 28 litres milk in a society in the village,” said Ajay.

However, he was always troubled by problems related to their health condition and fodder. “I used to make frequent trips to block veterinary office for help,” he said.

Ajay then got to know about Reliance Foundation from a daily newspaper. “Now, I had access to useful information regarding livestock health and disease management, feed and fodder management and as well as paddy and vegetable crop-related information. The information not only helped me to solve my day-today problems but also earn more by keeping my livestock healthy every season,” he said.

“The Foundation also conducted programmes related to feed and fodder management in our village, where we learnt about how to cultivate Azolla and Hybrid Napier. With the knowledge, I started a new venture to cultivate fodder plants two years ago. It has helped me to earn more,” he added.

The livestock farmer said that he no longer has to buy fodder for his animals.

Ajay has also installed JIO CHAT App on his mobile phone. “The application allow us to view practical videos and get season-based livestock management information,” said Ajay.

“It has not only helped me to earn more but also save money. My monthly income from livestock rearing and livestock feed selling has increased,” he added.
