The BJP has accused the Mamata Banerjee government of “minority appeasement” over a Bengal government circular.
A report in timesnownews.com said the state’s Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department (MAMED) circular has asked district administrations to submit a list of government schools where the strength of minority community students exceeds 70 per cent. The circular is in line with the state government’s decision to build separate dining halls for Muslim students.
The circular said the list of government and government-aided schools having “more than 70 per cent” minority students is “to be sent to MAMED by June 28”.
The BJP has asked the reason for the alleged discrimination on the basis of religion, but the state government said it was part of the ongoing process to expand NAMED’s reach beyond madrassas for the development and welfare of the minority community.
