Coming Soon: New Greenish-Yellow Rs 20 Notes From RBI

Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will shortly issue new Rs 20 denomination banknotes, in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series and bearing the central bank governor Shaktikanta Das’s signature.

“The Rs 20 note will be greenish-yellow in colour. The new banknote has a motif of Ellora Caves on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage,” India Today quoted a statement by the RBI as saying.

All Rs 20 denomination banknotes issued earlier by the RBI will continue to be legal tender, the statement clarified.

The new note has geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both on the obverse (front) and reverse, and the dimension will be 63mm x 129mm. Apart from the motif of Ellora caves, the note will also carry Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait, the Ashoka pillar and the Swachh Bharat logo.

The front side contains a see-through register with denominational numeral 20, a latent image with the numeral and also a Devanagari version of the same.

Since the introduction of the new Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 notes, after demonetisation in November 2016, the RBI has rolled out currency notes with fresh designs for all major denominations.
