Air India ‘Jai Hind’ Directive Raises Eyebrows

New Delhi: How about being welcomed onboard an Air India flight from Bhubaneswar to New Delhi with a Jai Hind salute from the cabin crew and the pilots.

Display of patriotic fervour is set to reverberate in the skies as well in keeping with the mood of the nation from today onwards. The national carrier has issued a directive asking all crews onboard the aircraft to announce Jai Hind at the end of every announcement.

The stirring salute will be made after a pause to stir that nationalistic fervour within you.

So, what you will hear would be something like this:

“Ladies and gentlemen, the captain has turned on the fasten seat belt sign.”

Slight pause.

“JAI HIND!”

As you relax on after fastening the seat belts, the next set of announcements would also be followed with Jai Hind!

Ask for a glass of water, you could very well be greeted with “yes sir Jai Hind!”

And be ready to be saluted at least 18 times till you land in Delhi.

“Flight attendants/cabin crew, please be seated. JAI HIND!”

“Passengers standing in the aisle are requested to move back to their seats and put on their seat belts … (slight pause) … JAI HIND!”

“The use of toilets is prohibited due to bad weather conditions. JAI HIND!”

In case a passenger takes ill on the flight…

“Ladies and gentlemen, paging for a doctor on board! Kindly come to seat XX-Y. JAI HIND!”

Flyers remain inattentive, as is often the case. Will this more enthuse flyers with more josh, some of whom are likely to be startled each time the crew shouts out “Jai Hind” with “much fervour”?
