Mumbai: The stage is set for a historic cricketing showdown as Team India prepares for a massive multi-format tour of New Zealand. The high-octane series, scheduled to commence on October 22, will stretch over a month and conclude on December 1. By hosting the Indian contingent for this exhaustive schedule, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) is set to register a unique and historic milestone.
This upcoming bilateral series will feature a total of 12 matches, making it the longest home bilateral tour in the history of New Zealand cricket. The tour is neatly divided across all three formats, featuring five T20 Internationals, five One Day Internationals (ODIs), and two crucial Test matches. The action-packed schedule kicks off with the T20I leg and culminates with the traditional red-ball fixtures.
Prior to this record-breaking tour, the longest bilateral series hosted on New Zealand soil comprised 11 matches. Most recently, the Blackcaps hosted the West Indies last year for an 11-match series consisting of five T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests. A similar 11-match schedule (three T20Is, six ODIs, and two Tests) was organized during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in 2010. However, the Indian team’s visit will be the very first time the Kiwis host a 12-match series on home turf.
The extensive tour presents significant opportunities for both sides. For Team India, the massive five-match ODI series holds immense strategic importance as they look to build and fine-tune their core squad in preparation for the much-anticipated World Cup next year. Additionally, the two Test matches will be critical for vital World Test Championship (WTC) points.
Cricket fans can expect intense competition and thrilling encounters as these two formidable sides lock horns across various challenging venues in New Zealand over the next six weeks.
