New Delhi: A formal police complaint has been lodged against prominent YouTuber Dhruv Rathee for allegedly inciting personnel of the Indian Army and police forces to rebel against the Central government. The complaint, filed by Delhi-based advocate Vivek Garg, accuses the content creator of attempting to wage a war against the State through a recent controversial interview.
Advocate Garg submitted the written complaint to the Delhi Police Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North District), and the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Roop Nagar police station. According to the complainant, Rathee, during a recent media interaction, purportedly appealed to police officials, armed forces personnel, and film personalities to unite and raise their voices against the current government.
In the allegedly viral interview, Rathee is said to have stated that if security personnel collectively decide to speak up, it would become impossible for the government to initiate punitive action against all of them. This statement sparked an intense debate across social media platforms, with a section of users accusing the YouTuber of provoking a rebellion among the uniformed forces.
Citing the digital footage, Garg has demanded strict legal action against Rathee. The lawyer has urged the authorities to register a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to thoroughly investigate the matter.
Going a step further, the complainant has also requested the Delhi Police to probe Rathee’s financial sources and alleged external contacts. Furthermore, Garg has strongly appealed for the immediate confiscation of the YouTuber’s passport. While the complaint letter has gone viral on various social media platforms, it remains unclear whether the Delhi Police has officially registered an FIR based on these allegations.
Meanwhile, addressing separate speculations regarding the content creator, the Noida Police recently dismissed widespread social media rumours claiming that Rathee had been taken into custody. Taking to the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter), the Noida Police completely rubbished the claims.
“Certain social media handles are broadcasting information and posts regarding the arrest of Dhruv Rathee by the Noida Police. The said information is completely false, misleading, and baseless. No such arrest has been made by the Noida Police,” the official handle stated, warning that strict legal action would be taken against individuals caught spreading such fake news and rumours.
