Mumbai: For fans of Indian television’s golden era, a deeply nostalgic cinematic event is on the horizon. Almost 39 years after capturing the nation’s collective imagination as Lord Ram and Goddess Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic mythological epic Ramayan (1987), veteran actors Arun Govil and Dipika Chikhlia are set to reunite on the silver screen.
The legendary duo, whose divine on-screen pairing left an indelible mark on Indian pop culture, will be seen together in an upcoming feature film titled Notice. Directed by Aditya Raghuvanshi, the film will mark the first time the two actors have collaborated since their historic television stint.
According to the filmmakers, Notice aims to present Govil and Chikhlia in roles that echo the righteousness of their Ramayan counterparts, albeit in a contemporary setting. Set against a rural backdrop, the film revolves around a common man, played by Govil, who valiantly fights for justice against a corrupt systemic machinery. In this modern-day struggle for truth and fairness, Chikhlia will portray his supportive and steadfast wife.
“In Notice, these two actors appear almost as modern incarnations of Ram and Sita,” a spokesperson for the film explained. “The story’s core involves a 150-year-old shop, tapping into the emotional displacement of those who lose their homes and livelihoods to sudden development. When it comes to a battle of truth against falsehood, who better to narrate this story than the pair of Ram and Sita?”
This long-awaited reunion has sparked immense excitement among audiences who still revere the actors for their mythological roles. While Govil is currently receiving attention for his upcoming role as King Dashrath in Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated Ramayana movie, his reunion with Chikhlia remains a deeply sentimental milestone for their long-time fans.
