Chhatarpur: In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves across Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur city, a young woman was brutally murdered in broad daylight in the posh residential area of Amaltas Colony. The incident, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Civil Line police station, took a heart-wrenching turn when authorities discovered the victim’s two young children locked inside the house, sleeping peacefully just metres away from the crime scene.
The deceased has been identified as Jyoti Chourasia, originally a resident of Maharajpur. According to the police and neighbours, she worked at a local establishment, Pranjal Hotel, and lived in a rented accommodation in Amaltas Colony with her two children.
The grim discovery was made after police received information about the incident. Upon arriving at the scene, the investigating team, led by the Civil Line police station in-charge, found the main door of the house locked from the outside. Suspecting foul play, the police broke open the lock and entered the premises.
Inside, they were met with a baffling and tragic sight. While the woman had been brutally murdered, her two innocent children—aged approximately four and six years—were found fast asleep on a bed in one of the rooms. The police immediately and safely evacuated the children from the house. Preliminary investigations suggest that the assailants, after executing the killing, deliberately locked the children inside the room and secured the main door from the outside before fleeing the spot.
Senior police officials, along with a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, promptly reached the crime scene to gather critical evidence. Authorities are actively scanning CCTV camera footage from the colony and its surrounding areas to identify the perpetrators and piece together the sequence of events.
While the exact motive behind the murder remains unclear, investigating officers are exploring multiple angles, including personal enmity, potential family disputes, and the victim’s close relationships. Police teams are also interrogating individuals who were in regular contact with the deceased to ascertain who might have visited her on the day of the incident.
“We have initiated a thorough investigation, and several police teams have been deployed to trace the accused,” a senior police official stated. The body has been sent for a post-mortem, and authorities are awaiting the autopsy and forensic reports to gain absolute clarity on the exact nature of the crime. The police have assured the public that the culprits will be apprehended soon.
