New Delhi: A massive ruckus broke out during a press conference held by independent Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav at his official residence in the national capital on Sunday. The chaotic scenes unfolded when a young man infiltrated the gathering, allegedly attempted to attack the parliamentarian, and threw a shoe at him before being overpowered by the supporters present at the venue.
The Delhi Police have identified the prime accused as Sumit Sahpani, a thirty four year old scrap dealer originally from Sahpani village in the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh. According to initial investigations, Sumit currently resides in Ghaziabad with his family and has no prior criminal record. Authorities revealed that he managed to enter the premises under the guise of meeting the Purnea parliamentarian. Another individual named Happy, who had accompanied Sumit in a car and was waiting outside, managed to flee the spot when the scuffle began.
During the press briefing, Sumit allegedly hurled a shoe at Yadav, triggering an immediate retaliation from the political supporters. The accused was quickly subdued and subsequently handed over to the police, allegedly along with a knife recovered from him. Police officials are currently investigating how the accused managed to bypass security with a weapon and are actively searching for his absconding accomplice.
Initial interrogations suggest that the accused was deeply offended by recent political protests organized by the lawmaker. He was reportedly angered by the parliamentarian wearing saffron robes while performing a symbolic skit regarding the alleged theft of Ram Temple donations.
Following the incident, a visibly shaken Pappu Yadav alleged a deep rooted conspiracy to assassinate him. He claimed that certain individuals had been announcing bounties on his life and issuing threats to burn him alive. Expressing grave concerns over his safety, Yadav questioned the effectiveness of his security detail. Despite having Y Plus category security, which generally mandates the presence of multiple armed personnel, only three police guards were reportedly stationed around him during the attack. The lawmaker stated that he would have been killed if his supporters and media personnel were not present at the scene.
The sudden security breach at the residence of a sitting Member of Parliament has raised serious questions about the safety protocols in place. The Delhi Police are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and ensure accountability.
