New Delhi: Following massive social media outrage over a viral video showing a teenage girl hurling abusive slogans at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest at Jantar Mantar, her mother has publicly expressed profound gratitude to the Prime Minister for his forgiveness. The mother stated that the Prime Minister’s decision to forgive the young protesters has granted her daughter a “new life.”
The controversy erupted during a protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party against the alleged NEET UG paper leak on July 23. A video surfaced online showing the girl making derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister and his late mother. Following the public backlash, PM Modi posted a video message on his Instagram account, urging the nation to exercise restraint and forgive the “misguided children.” Stating that anger and retaliation are not the answers, he appealed to society to help guide the youth toward a positive path.
Speaking to the news agency PTI, the mother thanked the Prime Minister with folded hands for choosing compassion over punitive action. “PM Modi has shown his greatness by forgiving the child who used such filthy and obscene words. Today is her birthday, and PM Modi has given her the greatest gift: jeevandaan (the gift of life). Today, this girl has been reborn,” she said.
Shortly after the Prime Minister’s appeal, the 15 year old girl released an apology video. Clarifying her age, she stated that she had visited Connaught Place with friends before wandering into the protest site. She admitted to getting carried away by the aggressive atmosphere and the influence of those around her. Describing the incident as her first and last mistake, the teenager expressed deep shame. “I apologise to the entire country. I am so ashamed. I can’t even look at myself. Please forgive me,” she pleaded in the video.
Despite the public apologies from both the mother and the daughter, legal challenges persist. A Zero FIR was registered by the Noida Police based on a complaint alleging that her remarks disturbed public peace and insulted the dignity of the Prime Minister’s office. The case has since been transferred to the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi.
The family is now appealing for the withdrawal of the FIR, pointing out a critical error in the police report which allegedly lists the 15 year old minor’s age as 25. Furthermore, the mother has urged the government to implement stricter regulations on social media platforms for minors. She requested the Prime Minister to ban platforms like Facebook and Instagram for individuals under 20, arguing that young children lack the maturity to navigate such spaces and are easily manipulated into participating in political protests.
