New Delhi: The Central Government on Monday categorically dismissed rumors regarding the sale of India’s gold reserves, clarifying in the Lok Sabha that the Reserve Bank of India has not sold a single gram of gold. The government’s firm denial puts to rest recent claims suggesting that the central bank had offloaded nearly 12 billion dollars worth of gold to protect foreign exchange reserves amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Responding to a written question in the Lower House during the monsoon session, the government issued a clear “No.” The question sought to verify if the government had indeed liquidated a portion of its gold assets due to global geopolitical tensions. Reiterating its stance, the administration highlighted that the RBI had already debunked these claims as false and misleading in a press release issued on June 3, 2026.

Providing concrete figures to back its statement, the government confirmed that the physical volume of gold held by the RBI remains completely unchanged. As of May 29, 2026, the central bank’s gold reserves stand intact at 880.52 tonnes. The administration firmly stated that there has been absolutely no reduction or alteration in this volume, terming the media reports of the sale as factually incorrect.

The clarification came on the opening day of the Parliament’s monsoon session, which was otherwise dominated by massive uproar over the NEET paper leak controversy. The ongoing agitation by the Cockroach Janta Party spilled onto the streets of Delhi, with thousands of supporters marching towards the Parliament demanding the Education Minister’s resignation. The protests led to heavy police deployment, lathi charges, and the use of tear gas, eventually forcing both Houses of Parliament to adjourn proceedings until Tuesday morning.

Despite the intense political heat over educational issues, the government’s swift clarification on the nation’s economic assets aims to reassure markets and the public about the stability of India’s foreign exchange management.
