New Delhi: In what could be a massive geopolitical shift in South Asia, Balochistan has reportedly declared itself an independent nation, severing its ties with Pakistan. A viral statement circulating on social media under the banner of the “Republic of Balochistan” claims that Baloch forces have successfully captured eighty five percent of the disputed territory, dealing a severe blow to the Pakistani establishment.

The highly circulated document outlines the formation of a sovereign state, asserting complete control over the region’s vast mineral resources, natural gas fields, and coal mines. Furthermore, the declaration states that the newly formed administration has already introduced its own national flag, anthem, currency, and a functional administrative system. The letter also makes a bold claim that a large number of personnel from Pakistani security agencies have resigned from their posts to join the Baloch independence movement.

Balochistan has been a flashpoint of tension for decades, witnessing widespread protests and anti establishment rallies. The local population has frequently raised slogans against the Pakistani military leadership, particularly targeting Army Chief General Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over alleged human rights violations and resource exploitation. The recent claim of total independence has significantly escalated the ongoing crisis for Islamabad.

Despite the viral claims causing a massive stir online, there is currently no official confirmation regarding the authenticity of the letter. Moreover, no major international organization or recognized global government has formally acknowledged Balochistan as a sovereign and independent nation yet.

The region has seen a sharp increase in violence in recent months. Ethnic Baloch insurgents and militants affiliated with the Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan have intensified their attacks on Pakistani security forces. Since July 5, targeted military operations, including “Operation Shaban” conducted jointly by the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, and local police, have reportedly resulted in the deaths of 109 militants. If the current claims of a complete takeover hold any truth, the security dynamics in the volatile region are poised to change drastically.
