New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress has suffered another setback in the Rajya Sabha, with party MP Prakash Chik Baraik resigning from the Upper House. His resignation comes amid a series of exits from the party’s parliamentary ranks, adding to the political pressure on TMC chief Mamata Banerjee.
According to the report, Baraik is the third TMC Rajya Sabha MP to step down in recent days. Earlier, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy had resigned on June 8, followed by Sushmita Dev on June 10. With Baraik’s resignation on June 11, the party’s strength in the Rajya Sabha has come down from 13 to 10.
The latest development has triggered fresh speculation over the internal situation within the TMC. The report claimed that three more Rajya Sabha MPs of the party may resign in the coming week. However, no official confirmation on further resignations has been reported.
The development comes at a time when the TMC is facing political uncertainty in West Bengal after losing power in the state. The report said the party’s position has weakened since the defeat, with several leaders distancing themselves from the leadership.
There are also reports of discontent among some TMC Lok Sabha MPs. The article mentioned that more than 10 Lok Sabha MPs of the party are believed to be unhappy, with names such as Kakoli and Sayani being discussed in political circles. It further said that some of these MPs had recently met BJP leader and Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
The resignations have given the opposition fresh ammunition to target the TMC, while also raising questions over the party’s organisational control. For Mamata Banerjee, who led West Bengal for nearly 15 years, the immediate challenge now appears to be holding the party together and preventing further erosion.
While the TMC has not officially responded in detail to all the claims mentioned in the report, the back to back exits from the Rajya Sabha have clearly placed the party under scrutiny. The next few days will be politically significant, as any further resignation could deepen the crisis for the party at the national level.
