Patna: A fresh political controversy has erupted in Bihar after Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya accused the state government of pressuring former Chief Minister Rabri Devi to vacate her long occupied government bungalow in Patna. The issue has once again brought the long running dispute over official residences and political rivalry in Bihar into the spotlight.
The controversy intensified after Rohini Acharya alleged that the Bihar government was trying to force Rabri Devi out of the official residence she has occupied for several years. In a strongly worded reaction, Rohini accused the ruling establishment of targeting her family for political reasons and claimed that the move reflected vendetta politics rather than administrative necessity.
Rabri Devi, who served as Bihar’s Chief Minister and remains one of the most prominent leaders of the RJD, has been staying at the government bungalow for more than two decades. The residence has long been associated with the political legacy of Lalu Prasad Yadav and the Yadav family. The bungalow issue has surfaced repeatedly in Bihar politics, especially after changes in government and administrative reviews of official accommodation allotments.
According to reports, Rohini Acharya questioned why the matter was being raised again and suggested that the government was deliberately attempting to create political pressure on the RJD leadership. She maintained that her mother was being unfairly targeted and argued that such actions reflected the ruling coalition’s political intentions.
The dispute comes against the backdrop of an ongoing political confrontation between the RJD and the ruling alliance in Bihar. The issue had previously triggered a heated exchange after the government reportedly issued directions related to the bungalow’s occupancy. At that time, RJD leaders accused the Nitish Kumar led administration of acting under political pressure and attempting to weaken opposition voices.
The matter has also gained attention because of recent political developments within the Yadav family. Rohini Acharya, who entered active politics in recent years and contested elections on behalf of the RJD, has remained vocal on issues concerning her family and party leadership. Her statements have often generated political debate in Bihar.
Meanwhile, the ruling side has maintained that matters related to government accommodation are administrative in nature and should be handled according to official rules and eligibility criteria. No fresh detailed response from the Bihar government on Rohini’s latest allegations had emerged immediately.
The bungalow row is expected to remain a politically sensitive issue in Bihar, where symbolic battles over legacy, power and public perception often become part of the larger political narrative. With both sides continuing to trade accusations, the controversy has once again highlighted the sharp political divide between the RJD and the ruling alliance in the state.
